Welcome to the Acoustics Centre NZ. We are researchers and students who study anything that has to do with sound as impacting the human listener. We are hosted by the School of Architecture within the University of Auckland's National Institute of Creative Arts and Industries.
As part of the ACNZ the Acoustics
Service (ATS) provides commercial testing on building materials, building systems, and sound producing products. The ATS uses the reverberation chambers virtually full-time as the National Acoustics Test Laboratories and was accredited as a Testing Lab by the international accreditation authority (but currently discontinued at our request because of the onerous financial implications of review costs and yearly membership fees). This commercial activity, as well as accruing valuable (though modest) income for the faculty and centre, provides valuable experience and money for senior students. As well as research the ACNZ provides service teaching for degrees in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Audiology and most recently Music/SCAPA.
